We are proud of our brand new facility and would like to tell you a little bit about it.

We have converted a former farm house into a clinic.  The building is a Sears mail-order home, the type that was delivered as a kit and assembled by following the directions supplied.  The structure, aside from some settling, is in relatively great shape for a house built in 1925.  Luckliy for us, the original southern pine woodwork had never been painted and it served as inspiration for any renovations that were made.

What was formerly the living room is now our reception area.  We added a partition to the south side of the room to create a reception desk and front office.

The dining room has been converted into our examination room, where you will meet and consult with the doctor.  In this room is our back-saving hydraulic lift table and scale, a real boon to the staff,  as they will not have to lift those really big dogs up to an exam table.

The former kitchen is now the treatment room and receiving area.  Here is where we will do our dental procedures, in the new bi-level tub.  Off in what was a pantry is our Radiology department, with a state of the art, human quality (very safe) X-ray machine.  Equipped with an automatic processor, the doctor can consult X-rays within minutes, to help make a speedy diagnosis.

Down the stairs into the basement, our laboratory and recovery wards are located.  We are equipped to do in-house lab work and cytopathology, but we will send out the more extensive bloodwork to an off-site laboratory, which helps keep costs down.  Separate from the recovery ward, is the isolation ward.  We also have a intensive care ward with oxygen and thermal support.

Also in the basement, is our surgery, equipped with lift table and high-intensity surgery lights.  To assure optimum sterility, the scrub sink and autoclave are close at hand.

An interesting story about the basement-- at one time there was a fuel oil furnace and oil tank in the basement, then the house was converted to electric baseboard heat (Thank you, Central Hudson.)  An unwitting fuel oil deliveryman, unaware the tank had been removed, proceeded to deliver oil into the exterior tank valve, which was still in place.  As he waited for the nozzle to sense the tank was full and turn off, he noted there sure was an awful lot of oil going into that tank.  Well, about 12 inches deep of oil later he realized his error and the fuel oil company was left with a pretty big clean up job.

This all happened before we bought the property, but the basement was still pretty rough when we acquired it.  We have since poured a new concrete floor and removed all woodwork so the smell of fuel oil has been eradicated.  The electric heat is also gone, replaced with a new energy efficient oil furnace.  And the oil tank is in the basement ready to receive any delivery.

On the second floor, the three bedrooms are now serving as the doctor's office, the practice manager's office and the children's and employee lounge. (Very important as Dr. Dalton has two children, Lizzy and Curtis, who are often here with us.

We hope you will feel at-home when you visit our little farm house clinic and also tell your friends about us.
